
MLK Day Volunteer Event with AmeriCorps and Groundwork RVA

Please help us get our Hillside Farm ready for Spring! We will have various activities and tasks for volunteers and service members to complete. Since this will be in January please wear lots of warm layers and closed toed shoes! We will provide all of the supplies needed. In case of inclement weather we will have indoor activities at our Office at Six Points Innovation Center where we will be screen printing swag!
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
We will have opportunities outdoors and indoors depending on the weather.
Outdoors at our Hillside Farm:
- Mulching and weeding garden beds and orchard.
- Seed collecting! There’s a native meadow near the playground that has a lot of the same plants we grow in our bioswale.
- Woodline work: removal of invasives! Loppers for Ligustrum, pulling for ivy and honeysuckle.
- Habitat border building: using fallen limbs and dead wood we will create a “habitat fence” along the back/creek for our creatures to live in and give a place for our debris to decay.
- Wiregrass weeding!
Indoors at Six Points Innovation Center:
- Screen printing of shirts and bags with Groundwork Logos. All materials will be provided.

No skills or qualifications required!
Time Commitment:
11am – 1pm
Other Information (if applicable):
Please bring a water bottle and any other items you may need to be comfortable during your work day with us. All gloves, tools, and supplies will be provided! Please let us know if there is any other accommodations that need to be made. All parking is street parking, but there is plenty of it!
